Coronavirus Level 2 restrictions and dentistry

The Australian Government has agreed to lifting restrictions for elective surgery, including some dental procedures from Monday. 27 April.

Coronavirus restrictions and dentistry

In dentistry, social distancing cannot be observed, and non-essential procedures will still be postponed. However, there is now more scope now for treatment options to remedy small problems or prevent them progressing.

Preventive dentistry and COVID19

Specifically, routine check-ups can now be carried out with a manual clean. Some people have always preferred their dentist hand-scale to remove hard build-up to the ultrasonic method. In fact, a dentist’s clean has typically used both methods as the manual use of a single instrument is more effective in hard to reach spaces and on particularly hardened plaque.

Level 2 restrictions allow for some fillings

Fillings are now permitted where required. If you know you have one to get done, or have concerns about an existing filling, you can now receive treatment to contain these smaller problems.

Even RCT can be performed again as an important tooth-saving option.

Careful screening of all patients

We will continue to ask screening questions prior to booking an appointment, and again when you arrive. Please understand that as we do this with all patients, we are keeping you safe too.

In addition, staff are conscious of keeping themselves ‘distanced’, and will not attend for work if they come into contact with anyone who is unwell.

Changed business hours during COVID19

We will continue with our slightly shorter operating hours of 9am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday.

Unlike many practices, we have remained open through the past weeks and our dental assistants have been on hand to take any calls. We are happy to answer questions, or pass particular concerns on to the dentist for clarification.
