Disclosing tabs show how well you are brushing your teeth
Regular tooth brushing has been shown to prevent decay and keep the gums healthy, particularly when brushing technique is effective. Apart from a visit to the dentist, there is one other way to test – and measure improvements in – your oral hygiene techniques. Using disclosing tablets is a great way to clearly see which teeth are missed during normal cleaning.
How do I use disclosing tablets?
These tiny chewable tablets contain a harmless vegetable dye that adheres to plaque – showing up bright pink (or blue or purple), depending on the dye. Used AFTER brushing, they demonstrate clearly the hard-to-reach areas where plaque has been missed or not thoroughly cleaned by the toothbrush. And so, you brush again, paying particular attention to the coloured areas.
Are disclosing tabs safe for kids?
They are great for kids who see it as a game, but also for adults where oral hygiene may be a concern with respect to gum health or repeat decay.
To use:
- Brush normally as mentioned above – check out tips for correct brushing technique.
- Chew half a tablet for adults (a quarter is sufficient for kids), then swish around with saliva for 30 seconds before spitting out.
- Rinse gently with water – then check your teeth in good light for bright colourful staining
- Finally, brush again to get a truly bright white smile!
Don’t forget to repeat in a week / month to consolidate learning and ensure long term improvements in your oral hygiene. Your dentist will spot the difference!
