How better to demonstrate that smiles are contagious than by giving you reason to chuckle when stuck behind a bus?
Some time ago, during an annual review of popular print advertising, we were discussing the visual impact of team photos. In response to our hesitation, the well-meaning rep suggested they just use ‘a stock image’ . . . so a picture of an appropriate clinical model would suffice! And, to be fair, if you flick through enough adverts, sometimes you can even see the same stock photo in different sections. This didn’t make us smile.
Time to change things up!
The majority of ads for dental services claim many things about ‘your smile’ and being ‘friendly and relaxing’, so we decided to create ads that would actually prompt a smile. And couple them with well known quotes.
We reeled out a few that we repeated in a local magazine, and had a great response! We had a colleague, technically a competitor, call in fits of laughter, we had marketing calls from advertisers wanting us to buy billboard space and even radio time. While some would argue our monkey’s face was made for radio, we are satisfied with the response to the visual impact.
Along came the bus. . .
An opportunity arose to place an ad on a local bus, and we hoped our monkey’s grin might prove, once and for all, that smiles are contagious indeed.
